Featured Stories & Articles from Cape Cod Travel Magazine: MV Hostel Named Friendliest Hostel in the World
December 12, 2011: Hostelling International New England (HI-New England) announced today that the Martha’s Vineyard Hostel was named the “Friendliest Hostel” in the world by Hostelling International’s “2011 High 5ives! Hostel Awards” which are based on ratings by guests throughout 1,800 hostels worldwide. The annual ratings feature the highest achievements in the five categories: Best Hostel, Most Efficient, Most Comfortable, Best Hostel Country and Friendliest Hostel.
“We are thrilled that the Martha’s Vineyard Hostel has been recognized as a leader among all hostels operated by Hostelling International,” said Deborah Ruhe, Executive Director of Hostelling International’s Eastern New England Council. “To be named ‘friendliest’ hostel is truly an honor and reflects on our dedicated staff who makes it their priority to ensure every visitor’s stay is wonderful and memorable.”
Of over 60 hostels in North America, the Martha’s Vineyard Hostel is the only one to win a “2011 High 5ives! Hostel Award” this year. Located between the villages of Edgartown and West Tisbury, the Martha’s Vineyard Hostel won Hostelling International’s “Most Efficient Hostel” in 2010 and has been a favorite of hostellers for more than 50 years.
“The Martha’s Vineyard hostel wins customers over with their delicious pancake breakfasts, but what really shines through are the comments about the hostels staff who are continually described as kind, attentive and extraordinarily helpful,” said Ruhe. The Martha’s Vineyard hostel has been managed for the past two years by Donnie Morgan and Mike Gambone.
“This was one of my favorite stays on my
travels around the world,” commented Neil, a Martha’s Vineyard visitor from
England. “The Hostel staff was very friendly and couldn't do enough for me.
Because of them helping me out on my forwarding travels, I am so happy to find
yet another good hostel in eastern America. I would most certainly want to stay
at this Hostel again and will be recommending it to all I know who may want to
travel in the area."
The Martha’s Vineyard
Hostel operates seasonally from late spring through Columbus Day weekend. In addition to the Martha’s Vineyard Hostel,
HI-New England operates hostels in the Cape Cod and Islands towns of Truro,
Eastham, Nantucket, and Hyannis.
