It might not be easy being green, but
the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, together with Community Development Partnership,
has an answer for businesses looking for a way to obtain sustainability in
their daily operations.
The Cape & Islands Green program is a toolbox for
business owners and organizations to create a standard for green practices
through a verification process. While earning “green” verification is rewarding
for the environment and sparks economic growth and cost-saving opportunities, it
also provides peace of mind for eco-conscious travelers looking for a vacation
spot where people are serious about protecting the environment. Cape &
Islands Green verifies that businesses have achieved a standard of compliance
with sustainable practices such as having an energy audit, and using green
cleaning products.
To earn verification, businesses must
be acknowledged as responsible in seven categories, including: Commitment, Energy
Conservation; Water Conservation; and Transportation. The program is further
separated into three steps so businesses can slowly incorporate the criteria.
Cape & Islands Green verification
allows environmentally conscious visitors and residents to find like-minded
businesses. “More businesses are being verified all the time.” says Michele
Pecoraro, Cape Cod Chamber vice president and coordinator of the program. “It’s
a simple formula that allows businesses to realize the cost effectiveness of
being green, to keep our beautiful environment as pristine as possible, and to
draw focus to the region as a truly green destination.”
