The town of Brewster is known as "The Sea Captain's Town," due to its rich seafaring history and elegant homes built in the 1800's by wealthy sea captains, who chose this scenic bayside town as their home. The grist mill (the original one was across the street from Stony Brook was at the center of commerce. Sea captains’ homes are now elegant inns and restaurants; fine art and antiques galleries; and professional offices, museums and theatres.
Brewster offers everything from family camping to luxury spas; fried clam rolls to world class gourmet cuisine; souvenir trinkets to fine art and classic antiques. For recreation, there are museums that explore nature and history; award winning live theatre; a state park with bicycle and walking trails; over 800 acres of conservation lands; 15 fresh-water ponds; and seven public beaches along Cape Cod Bay.
Starting from the east end of town, the Public Saltwater Beaches are: Crosby Landing, Linnell Landing, Ellis Landing, Point of Rocks Landing, Breakwater Beach, Saint's Landing, Robbins Hill Beach, and Paines Creek Beach. There Are No Lifeguards at Bay Beaches and portable toilets are provided at Paines Creek, Mant's (Robbins Hill), Saints, Ellis, Linnell, Breakwater, and Crosby from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend.
Freshwater Beaches are at Long Pond and Sheep Pond. Long Pond is accessible from Crowell's Bog Road, off Route 124. A lifeguard is on duty from July 4th weekend to Labor Day Weekend, seven days a week, from 9am to 4pm. Portable toilets are available. And Sheep Pond, accessible from Fisherman's Landing and Upper Mill Pond, accessible from Run Hill Road, has no lifeguards, but portable toilets are available.
The Brewster Chamber of Commerce has 180 members, each reflecting the entrepreneurial spirit of our seafaring forefathers and the hearty folks that launched commerce with a grist mill in 1663. With a dedicated board of directors and professional year-round staff, the chamber serves as the local visitor's bureau, is a critical advocate for local businesses, and a resource for economic and community development. The organization's mission is to strengthen, support and promote the members to make Brewster a better place to visit, live, and work.
